The Rose Society (The Young Elites #2)- Marie Lu

The Rose Society (The Young Elites, #2)The Rose Society by Marie Lu

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Rose Society has exceeded my expectations. Marie Lu, has done it again. When I finished reading this book I had to stop my reading spree for two days. I could not start another book because this one was swirling and overflowing billions…TRILLIONS of thoughts in my mind. I didn’t know it was possible to love a book so much or for it to end in such a breathtaking way that you had to freaking stop functioning for TWO ENTIRE DAYS.

Adelina is betrayed so many times.
Freaking Enzo comes back to life.
Teren does more than get over his Queen.
Adelina finds a Myth Boy.
Myth Boy is charming and devoted.
Everyone who used to care for Adelina end up Hating her.
WHAT?!

So back to Review.

Adelina shows that she knows she’s badass and has skills in the very beginning. Her illusions are stronger, more powerful and she is BACK. Along with her caring sister.
They build their own badass crew that is going to overthrow the queen and stop the decimation of those scarred from the fever. They manage to get the Magic Magiano who is so very charming and devoted to Adelina. But he steps back to let Adelina have time with her revived love, Enzo.

Enzo is still charming, he has all of his memories and loves Adelina. HOWEVER. He’s not the same. He longs to be back in the netherworld and doesnt even realize it. His eyes don’t have the same intensity and spark. And he can’t be with Adelina without completely dominating her. And of course, he ends up completely destroying Adelina’s good side by leaving her and shattering her heart into a million more pieces.

Teren is obsessed with his Queen. So obsessed that he kills her. I have lost all hope that this guy could be a potential lover of Adelina. He is crazy and I have no idea what to think of him. He’s described as handsome but…where is the charm? What is his value to the story now that he is so utterly broken and crazy. This actually makes me anticipate the next book seeing that he’s still alive. What is he going to do next?

And now (drumroll) for the EPIC and MIND BLOWING ending of the book.

My revenge is complete.
I force a smile onto my face. In the silence, I sit alone on my throne and wait eagerly for all the satisfaction and triumph to hit me. I wait, and wait, and wait.
But it doesn’t come.

Adelina gets everything that she ever wanted but she realizes, this wasn’t what she wanted at all. She is ALONE. She has lost her sister, friends, and anyone who cares about her. She rules with fear. She finds out that her mind is deteriorating with every use of her power. She realizes that the whispers in her head have lead her to this isolated success. Is this even success?

I don’t think there will be another story that can make me feel the loss and pain of a villain like this. I don’t think I can wait for the 3rd book. I NEED IT. This ending isn’t even a cliff hanger. But it leaves me crazed and possibly delusional. Throughout reading this entire novel, I could envision everything so clearly. And I have to admit the voices in Adelina’s head annoyed me a lot. So did the constant appearance of her dead father. But to read the mind of a villain. To know and be able to see her reasoning. And feel all of the calamity brought down upon her once good soul. It’s breathtaking. I had to seriously stop and reread lines from the book. I had to have every word engraved in my mind.

The Young Elites- Marie Lu

The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1)The Young Elites by Marie Lu

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story was AMAZING. Marie Lu has seriously outdone herself. I love watching Adelina grow and become her own person. This story is dark and twisted, but I’m sure we all enjoy it like that. It was a GREAT opening to the trilogy(?) and I could not stop thinking about this book. I literally ran to the next book. So, back to Adelina..
Adelina is scarred. Literally. And I love that I am still able to appreciate her character so much. She has a family that doesnt love her anymore and she ends up killing her father with a hidden gift. Her gift of Illusion. We watch her grow fond and care for the other Young Elites. But we also watch her unravel and let the wounds she has reopen and swallow her. We watch her question herself and there is so much internal conflict.
Enzo, our charming Fire Prince is such a leader. A handsome, smart, and charisma oozing leader/lover. I love seeing him with his heart armor defences up and down.
Teren…I dont understand him. But I do like his evil character. He is one of the mains sources of Adelina’s conflict. If we could just move him, she wouldnt be abandoned. But no. Teren stays and heals quickly too. He never dies. But his backstory is interesting and I wonder if he will ever get over the Queen.
It has only just occured to me why these messed up things are happening to Adelina. Why she would be abandoned and hurt so badly so many times. She is strong. But only so many people can take the wrath of so many painful events. Adelina is special. Her story is the story of the rise of a Villain. How she came to be. Its a whole new perspective and I love it. Its so new. Its Amazing.
Shes had her first kill, her second too. Her illusions are pushing her. The whispers in her head stronger. The death in the end tears her apart. And what really pushes her, is when she loses the ones she loves again.
Leaving only Adelina and her sister against the world.

Overall, if you havent read this book yet….WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! This story is one of a kind and I dont think my heart strings have been pushed around this much before. The society is unique. We get a good view of this new world and all of its terrifying glory. The character Adelina has so much thought and detail put into her. Everyone has a past that explains their character in depth. And the PLOT. Oh my.. There is no PLOT like this anywhere else. When I finished this book, I had to question how such terrible things could happen. And it left me wanting more.
